The Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology was one of the pioneering departments established with the Kuwait Institute of Technology in the 1976–1977 academic year. The Institute was renamed the College of Technological Studies in the 1986–1987 academic year. From the outset, Production and Welding Technology was one of the department’s principal specializations. In the 2014–2015 academic year, the Production and Welding Technology Department was renamed the Department of Manufacturing Engineering Technology. The department offers two main programs: Manufacturing Technology and Welding Technology. Both programs are designed to maximize students’ educational experience through theoretical instruction, practical training in the department’s laboratories at the College of Technological Studies, and field training at industrial facilities and oil-sector companies in the State of Kuwait.
Objectives of the Department of Manufacturing Engineering Technology
The objectives of the Department of Manufacturing Engineering Technology are closely aligned with the strategic vision of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET). The department contributes to developing the knowledge and skills of the national workforce to meet Kuwait’s industrial development needs and address the challenges associated with growth across diverse industries. It also supports the core objectives of the College of Technological Studies by maintaining the quality of its graduates and preparing them effectively for the evolving demands of the labor market.
The department also aims to equip students with foundational knowledge of maintenance, engineering design, manufacturing tools, materials, and machinery. Students develop the ability to solve workplace problems, manage and optimize available resources, and manufacture specified products using conventional and advanced manufacturing technologies while complying with local, regional, and international quality standards and codes. They are also prepared to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; work as team leaders, supervisors, or team members; uphold high professional and ethical standards; and pursue continued professional development through lifelong learning and in-service training.
